In this way, the money shortage is met by bank overdraft which influences companyââ¬â¢s liquidity position. Organization ought not make all the deals and buys on layaway. It ought to pick a reasonable mix of money and credit deals/buys so that, companyââ¬â¢s receivables and payables donââ¬â¢t arrive at top levels. It is presumably impractical to gather the aggregate sum of credit deals. Some measure of credit deals transforms into awful obligation cost which canââ¬â¢t be recuperated. Organization ought to apportion little level of deals to terrible obligations. Money is the thing that keeps the business working. Organization requires money available to pay for its working, contributing and financing costs. The measure of money accessible/shortfall is determined with income explanation. Hisrich, Peter and Shepherd expresses that ââ¬Å"Cash stream results from the distinction between real money receipts and money paymentsâ⬠(1998:p.297). The distinction between income proclamation and benefit articulation is that income doesnââ¬â¢t consider installment of non-money costs, installment of credit head and withdrawals. (Rosemary, 2010) Benefits are created by taking away working costs from deals and it is determined through pay explanation. Salary articulation tells about the complete deals made during the year whether deals receipts are gathered or not. In June, Hidetoseek Ltd. is acquiring benefit yet its income is negative which shows that companyââ¬â¢s costs are more prominent than receipts. In this way, it should utilize bank overdraft to meet its costs. Whenever held income are utilized, the liquidity position of the organization is severely influenced. The money stores of organization diminishes which implies that if the organization needs to pay for its obligations or bring about some capital costs, it won't have the option to raise huge assets through its stores. The film is a the genuine story of a mathematician named John Forbes Nash Jr. who is played by Russell Crowe whom won an Academy Oscar for his picture as Maximus in The Gladiator. We initially meet John Nash at Princeton University in 1947 as a mathematician with social issues because of jumpy schizophrenia. Hes splendid and doesnt keep down on communicating the limit and merits of his cerebrum to his friends. Actually he is as of now so over the institutional measures that he decides to skip classes. He doesnt have a lot of karma with ladies either and wound up being smacked in the face very regularly with his unpolished, for what reason don't we jump to the sex line. All things considered, he comprehend his own condition, so he has as meager contact with individuals as could be expected under the circumstances, and invests a large portion of his energy in his apartment scanning for a revelation of another hypothesis. He is fundamentally a keen, bashful snap with a wry comical inclination. Not long after accepting acknowledgment for his hypotheses at Princeton, he turns into an educator at the renowned school of MIT and starts instructing. He draws in the consideration of one of his physic understudies, Alicia Larde, (played by Jennifer Connelly) and she discovers Nash's unconventionalities beguiling and asks him out to supper. By 1957 the two were hitched. Be that as it may, at about a similar time he meets his future spouse, he likewise meets the convincing government operator (Ed Harris) who enlists the teacher to break codes for the Department of Defense. It is just a couple of years after the fact that Nash's schizophrenia is analyzed. He gets neurotic and fanciful and now and again brutal. His reality comes smashing down around him. Individuals and things he accepts are genuine are just in his mind. Nash can never again be persuaded about who is genuine and who is in his h... <! Conceptions of sexuality during the 1940s and 1950s attracted attention to male prostitution. Research indicated that male prostitution was linked to the development of sexual identity. Thus, researchers helped to animate male prostitution as socially problematic. This unique problematization of male prostitution led people to believe that male prostitutes were homosexuals, a ghettoized sexual identity which contradicted normative standards of masculinity. Additionally, researchers questioned the motivation of men who engaged in prostitution. Were their motivations strictly financial or were they also motivated by the desire of the same sex? Although the correlation between male prostitution and homosexual identity is symbolic, this correlation is maintained due to rigid gender roles expected by the general population. This paper explores how male prostitution transformed into a male homosexual subculture, which constituted a social pro blem after World War II. Male prostitution was not always considered a social problem. During the eighteenth century, men in Europe, particularly London, engaged in sexual behavior with other men in return for payment (Bray 81-114; Norton 49-105). However, this sexual behavior was not understood as prostitution. In fact, there was no relationship between homosexual attraction and the commercialization of sexual acts among men. Rather, the commercialization of sexual acts was regarded as aShow MoreRelatedProstitution in India6516 Words à |à 27 PagesProstitution in India From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Inà India,à prostitutionà (exchanging sex for money) is legal, but related activities such as soliciting sex, operatingà brothelsà and pimping are illegal.[1][2] Prostitutionà is currently a contentious issue in India. Stanley Milgram was studying obedience following WWII. With a Jewish background and an education in social psychology, he wanted to explore the obedience of German people. He thought the atrocities committed during WWII could be attributed to a highly obedient country and culture. Milgram would soon come to realize obedience is an integral part of human nature. Milgram theorized that if a person was asked to shock another person within an experiment, they would quit before reaching high voltages. The three roles in his experiment would be the learner, the experimenter, and the teacher; the subject of Milgramââ¬â¢s study wasâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The experimenter and subject were situated together in an adjoining room. In my opinion, whoever is in the room with you will have the most influence over you. I can only wonder whether the results would be different if the subject had to see the learner as they were ââ¬Å"shockedâ⬠. This is comparable to the way people freely express profanity towards other individuals on the internet, but would never cause harm to another person when brought face to face. Aggression protected by anonymity or even physical det achment is timeless. It can alter the dynamics of any interaction. I also wonder if it was clear that the subject could leave if uncomfortable. The prompts from the experimenter were meant to test obedience of the subject. But within a scientific experiment, I believe it may have limited the subjectsââ¬â¢ freedom to leave at their own will. I am also curious to know whether people would rebel more freely, when tested in a group setting. I feel as though data collected on obedience of a group under authority would be more applicable to reality. I consider what decisions I would make as the subject, and I honestly think that I would fall into the majority who carried out the whole experiment. The term democracy comes from the Greek language and means ââ¬Å"rule by the (simple) peopleâ⬠. Is it a democracy we are living in. We will write a custom essay sample on Term Democracy or any similar topic only for you Order Now Since the coalition government has taken up the charge , itââ¬â¢s more of a secular dictatorship rather than a democracy. After 50 years of Independence what we have achieved seriously. Every time the elections come we talk of the same issues. We are still stuck up with the issue of reservation rather than concentrating on improving the primary education. Some things like freedom of thought and expression are taken for granted because we donââ¬â¢t even have the freedom to express. Recently issue of blogging came into news. Is it worthwhile. It is the fast and most effective way of reaching information reaching all over the world and it is most apt way of expressing oneââ¬â¢s views about any topic. It is the voice of a common man. If we are not able to express, how weââ¬â¢ll bring about a change. Recently the Mumbai blasts took a toll of hundreds of people and blogging was the most effective way but then it was banned. Itââ¬â¢s not that democracy has proved to be a total failure. Software boom has come which has given India a different image altogether. Now whether itââ¬â¢s an automobile industry, airline industry, beverages industry- all are doing well. After the financial reforms came and globalization and privatization has crept in, it has changed the overall scenario. Now we can talk of really good projects such as Golden Quadrilateral, but since the government has changed , all this is a talk of past. We were lucky to have a prime minister like Atal Bihari Vajpayee under whose leadership, India has seen some positive changes. India has always been seen as a soft country who is not capable of doing anything especially in terms of Kashmir Issue which has not been solved yet. But now it is time to take a tough stand. Leader is one who is powerful in himself and who is able to take his own decision. But if ministers like Manmohan Singh is there to protect our country under the leadership of Ms. Sonia Gandhi, then India is surely moving towards the wrong path. In my opinion, the democracy system as practiced in India has not delivered what was expected of it. Sure, there had indeed been certain things that were taken for granted in India like freedom of thought and expression, but what have we acheived by them?. The freedom of expression has given us freedom to express but has it given any chance to change what is wrong?. No, the system has seen to it that, though there are laws, nothing can be effected. Democracy as a system needs a high level of participation from the people, but had we given it to them? Why has it not happened in India?. Are we as people to be blamed for this state? Are we Indianââ¬â¢s been practicing this Democracy well before the concept took shape with its current name in the west? There are many referrences in earlier Tamil Literature about the way the adminisatrator is elected in villages of the ââ¬Å"Sanghamâ⬠period. Then when did we slid down the path?. Why do we behave like people who doesnt know that to claim a right, the corresponding Duty has to be performed? How many of us complained about an erring Policeman to his seniors? Can we then complain about corruption? Conclusion: In my point of view democracy is both boon and bane. when considered from the view of the people democracy is boon as they have freedom or recognition for the speech. so democracy is boon from peopleââ¬â¢s view and bane from governmentââ¬â¢s view. Answer: The aging population is at risk of developing dementia and the life expectancy is amplifying worldwide as per the (Menne, Judge and Whitlatch, 2009). The population of dementia has annually rising as projected (see figure 1.1), and in UK, approximately 850,000 people are living with dementia in the year 2014. According to the (Ravelin, Isola and Kylm, 2011) , the cost of caring for people with dementia has increased to 26.3 billion in a year at UK. According to (Ravelin, Isola and Kylm, 2011), the functional ability that gradually disabled a person to maintain the social life that affects the cognitive performance and the functional ability, this syndrome is called disease of the brain. With the help of this attributes one person can live independently and carry out their daily activities (Soderlund, Norberg and Hansebo, 2011). The Alzheimers disease of dementia is the most commonly disease (AD) (Yang et al., 2014). In order to deviate from onset and progression (See figure 1.2) there are different types of dementia. There are three stages of dementia according to Alzheimers Society (2015). The disease has powerful effects like the person used to become more forgetful, confused, disoriented in his/her daily life so for that the patience needs more encouragement. The verbal, and physical aggression, repeated questioning, sleep disturbance, apathy or psychosis, depression, wandering these are the behavioral and psychological symp toms in dementia (BPSD). It delays or prevents unnecessary admissions into hospital or an institution as it diagnosed early, as per the National Dementia, strategy establishes the rising awareness (DH 2009). With the help of the rising awareness, it can improve the people health and it is cost effective (DH 2007). For the patient and their careers, the NH vision and the clinical governance impetus has increased the growth in improving the outcomes as it ensures by the paramount and commitment for policy development (Adler, 2007). The increase use of antipsychotic medication in dementia care that has been control to endow with patient safety and the quality of life, this is an increasing concern (Blais, Zolezzi and Sadowski, 2014). The person-centered approach of care outlining the guide and the principles by negate NICE and SCIE (2006). The drug of this disease is counter-productive originated high number of death rates and cerebrovascular events. The Antipsychotic medication disease is treated in UK over 180,000 people (Cayton, 2004). When non-pharmacological interventions is employed by staff in concurrence with the management of medication categorized by cholinesterase inhibitors and analgesia (paracetamol), then the possible reduction on the use of antipsychotic drugs is needed (ceur-ws.org, 2015). According to the NICE (2007) guidelines the use of anti-psychotic medications should consider first before except the enduring is very anguish and at danger of self-harm or others (Khan and Curtice 2011, 1000 l ives plus 2012). The purpose of patients care is to endorsing health and avoiding ill health and for that, the nurses should be accountable and answerable for their actions (i.e. administering drugs). The Ropers nursing model is the central component that ensures the patient individualized care safety NICE (2006, 2010). LSW should indentify the patients individual needs and preferences so that they should have the personalized care plan. Regardless of cognitive symptoms, the dementia patients are offering to engage activities in a structured form of recollection. The dementia patient should have the opportunity to share their thoughts and memories with the people that have been defined by the LSW as biographical approaches in health and social care settings (Chanti-Ketterl et al., 2014). There will be some concerns for the patients who can be identified in the group of vulnerable individuals (fons.org, 2015). The confidentiality, preference of the patient, their interests should be take care by the nurses. As NMC (2015) in order to identify the patient with dementia and the preserving dignity, that is effective means by LSW, as states by the equality and human rights commission (2 011). The utilization of the role of a nurse can augment PCC with the dementia patient that will evaluate by the author. Search strategy Nursing index, CINAHL, PUBMED and the Cochrane are the online nursing database, these is used to search the most consistent and applicable information. These are the main keywords that were considered in order to search the most relevant data (Hamill, Smith and Rohricht, 2011). The Boolean operator OR and AND are commonly used synonyms that were combined to use earlier. The keyword like biography or storytelling, dementia or elderly, enhance care or patient centered care. The inclusion and the exclusion criteria against the combined results were screened (see Table 1.4). In the research article, it was mentioned that the back/forward chaining for searching are used in the reference list. In order to include the searches that had access to the full article, an advance search of these results that was carried out and it was published between the 2000 and 2015. The search results that are specified specially in UK are very fewer than anticipated and it was decided to leave the search results from all the geographical locations. The five investigations that were performed in UK, for the interview six appropriate articles are selected and the remaining one was completed in Sweden (Appendix 1). Communication and relationship, preservation of identity, patient centered care was included in the six articles that were identified to take into consideration. It is a process of transferring of messages in between two people or more than two people. If the nurses can develop the interpersonal skills by integrating their good communicating process, then it will help the nurses to get feedbacks from the patients. This process will help the nurses to develop their working skills by getting the feedbacks from the patient. Nurses should use an emotional voice tone and compassion while communicating with the patients to help the patient to make the good relationships with the nurses Russell et al (2009). This help the nurses to establish better relationships with the patients by engaging the patient with various positive activities and communicating capability. By communicating with the patient, nurses can reduce the disturbances among the patients. Better commun icating process will help the patients to behave properly. As described by (Kawashima, 2008), better communication can help the patients to get rid of dementia and can help the patient to live better half of their life. The Department of Health also agrees with the experience that the communication is the only treatment of dementia patient to get rid of the disease. It is apparent from the study that the dementia patient can communicate meaningfully with the other people. (Keith Hill, 2015) scrutinized few dementia patients in the hospital who makes a diagnosis to get rid of the dementia disease using research methodology. The haphazard interview was taken by the doctors to collect profuse information and data. While giving interviews to the doctor, the dementia patients always draw stories in their mind and covers the interview sessions. This research study come across many challenges in evaluating the information using signs and secret codes as the problems involved in the communication process may occur during the communication (Lbda.org, 2015). It can be stated that the legitimacy can be debatable during conversion of information. It can be stated that the qualitative communication can give better results while communicating with the patients. This will help the nurses to establish better relationships with the patients by engaging the patie nt with various positive activities and communicating capability. By communicating with the patient, nurses can reduce the disturbances among the patients. Better communicating process will help the patients to behave properly. (Lolk and Andersen, 2014) study propose that the communication process with the dementia patient is probably using LSW. This should be at the central part of practicing nursing jobs. It assists the staff to motivate the memories of the patients and discussion (Menne, Judge and Whitlatch, 2009).The related life stories of the dementia patients will give the nurses vast knowledge regarding the dementia patients. As the dementia patients are treated as the unique person to compare with the normal persons. The knowledge of the nurses taking care of the dementia patients are huge regarding the symptoms of the dementia patients (NMC 2015). It has been observed that the dementia patients have more feelings in them and they feel more comfortable while communicating with others. The dementia patients show more feelings and emotions while communicating with the other people and can develop better relationships with the listener and the patients. As opined by the McKeown, the communicating process gives better outcomes, and if the approach follows LSW method, then it gives far better outcomes. In-depth research study gives better position to discuss and observation power to understand the situation of the dementia patients and will help the nurse to keep the patients under observation/ This will help the nurses to understand the dementia patients better and practicing with LSW method will give them better outcomes to understand the feelings and emotions of the dementia patients Clarke et al (2003). It can be stated that the legitimacy can be debatable during conversion of information. It can be stated that the qualitative communication can give better results while communicating with the patients. This help the nurses to establish better relationships with the patients by engaging the patient with various positive activities and communicating capability. By communicating with the patient, nurses can reduce the disturbances am ong the patients. According to Mckeown et al. (2013) has stated that most of the people enjoys communicating with the dementia patients regarding their lifestyles and many of them shows interest to listen to their personal life stories. If the dementia patients start to disclose their personal matters in front of the people, then they will narrate their stories with lots of feelings and emotions. While giving interviews to the doctor, the dementia patients always draw stories in their mind and covers the interview sessions. This research study come across many challenges in evaluating the information using signs and secret codes as the problems involved in the communication process may occur during the communication. It can be stated that the legitimacy can be debatable during conversion of information. It can be stated that the qualitative communication can give better results while communicating with the patients. As described by (Moniz-Cook, 2006), better communication can help the patients to get rid of dementia and can help the patient to live better half of their life. The Department of Health also agrees with the experience that the communication is the only treatment of dementia patient to get rid of the disease. However, (Moyer, 1983) indicated that the LSW helps the staffs, a fresh imminent which helps to remember each and every dementia patient for their individual inimitability. The centeredness of dementia patient requires reorganization power to remember each and every dementia patients for their good communication skills and behavior (McCabe and Timmins 2006). . Better communicating process will help the patients to behave properly. As described by Potkins (2003), better communication can help the patients to get rid of dementia and can help the patient to live better half of their life. The Department of Health also agrees with the experience that the communication is the only treatment of dementia patient to get rid of the disease. Promoting Patient Care and Maintaining Improvement Attitude: According to (MV, 2015)the basic feature of a nurse is nothing but to recognize different kinds of tactics in order to handle the patients and availing best possible care for the patients. Patient centric care is nothing but identifying the necessities of the patients, their choice and conveniences that enables a patient to be literally unique in their approaches. The main motto of LSW is nothing but to provide a sophisticated patient focused caring service which engages them to become essentially developed in their approaches. A study of (Nhqualitycampaign.org, 2015)in different NHS Hospitals on the dementia patients and staff nurses and family members of the patients clearly visualize that approaches of the patients in this aspect is more intrinsic that leads in determining more cohesion. For this particular research study the researchers have collected the required data by interviewing 8 patients who were under treatment in the hospital, there family members and the other group people who have been in contact with these patients. From the findings it is analyzed that patient care approach is literally intrinsic aspect that helps in determining better duality. Building relation between the patient, patients family and the group of hospital people who looks after the patient is literally essential. Meeting the psychological and mental approaches for a patient is therefore quite essential. Approach of LSW in this aspect is for enhancing the patient care and letting the patients integrated in their approache s is literally necessary. Credibility of the patient is therefore quite immense in this approach that helps in maintaining persistency. For the study the researcher have paid the nurses for working in the night only to find out what are the issues that the nurse and the patient is facing. It leads to pertain the practical necessities as well. The care workers seem to have stated their experience before the researcher which leads in identifying the issues. They seem to have also shared their experiences of apprehension and restriction of timing. Talking about the heart throbbing memories, painful stories of the patients also seem to cast typical problem on the development of the person. LSW is also helps in pertaining the positive attributes for the patients. It let the nurses work and access to their work positively and systematically. It emerges out from the study that the main motto of LSW is nothing but to determine the challenges. Understanding the behaviour of the patient is li terally intrinsic that leads in managing the patients behaviour. Proper implementation of these approaches is also quite intrinsic approach that determines in appropriate delineation of the behaviour. Findings presented by (Pierce, 2011)states that 4 female patients who were suffering from severe symptoms like BPSD appear to get intricacies. Life approach of unusual behaviour leads to definite and concretise the status of the considering patient. Two of the patients appear not to have projected any unusual behaviour. It seems to be one of the proficient approaches that leads to manage the aggression level managed intrinsically. It appears to be a significant factor in managing better prospect. No significant sign of aggression is defined and presented in this approach. Selection of the candidates always may not seem to be potential approach. The study also projects that approach of LSW is also quite circumstantial aspect that leads in managing better coherence in this approach. It leads to attain better approaches for determining a sophisticated coherence for the person. Number of individuals in order to manage this approach is leading to develop better sophistication. The researc h projects how the number of participants is responding this approach that delineates the necessary ethics in this research study. But it is needed to be mentioned that current state of the participant or the patients has not been clarified or managed in this aspect. In some aspects prejudices become one of the point that put its impact on the development of this ethics as a whole. Personhood: The theory of Kitwood (1997) states that in dementia the state of a person changes that bestow on the on the social relationship and others. Social approaches are also quite significant approach that leads to attain respect, trust and other significant approaches. The socio political and biological theory of dementia leads in managing a broader prospect. The underpinning factors are also literally underpinning issues that lead to maintain better coherence. It seems to be quite significant issue for managing the crucial elements to attain better cohesion. McKeown et al. (2010) in their study mentions that semi structured interview process helps in managing and determining some of the intuitive aspects as well. It involves in managing better coherence in the health and safety ethos. Relatives in this approach appear to be keener and heard which henceforth enables personhood approach. Beyond the staffing and challenges the approaches of a patient is more intrinsic that delineates the challenging epoch. It involves in better personhood and involves a person in handling a patient from dementia in better way. LSW involves in care and opportunity development. The study of Karlsson et al. (2014) projects light on interviewing around nine participants suffering from Alzheimers disease. The interview seems to have been lasted four hours. It encourages in attaining better cohesion. Evidence of sustainability proved from this approach is literally immense. Its approaches are literally more impressive to engage the dementia patients suffering from the sense of self motion. The dementia patients are having more coherence in this approach. A clear understanding of the approach of the older people from the past context appears to attain better prodigality. It, however, appears to be better understanding approach applied from both the patients and doctors approaches. It appears to be another important approach that participates in composite development of the patient at the same time. Identifying the identity of the patient leads to maintain more prodigality (Surr 2006, Hydn Antelius 2011). Promotion in this order of a patient is technically intrin sic fact that ensures better prodigality. LSW is the basic means of preservation of identity and personification of people with dementia. Story telling is a good option for them to revive their identity providing an opportunity to remind them who they are. It is a great process for injecting a extrinsic drift in their memory for remembering their past as well as their experiences (Murphy 2000). Their voice works out better in the case that might make them nostalgic in a way. It is also helpful in treating the people to know more about the past of the patients. According to McKeownet al. (2006), it indicates to treat the people rather dementia as dementia patients need attention much. This process is popular in providing the patient an identity whereas it also encourages the caregivers to treat the patient individually (PINNER, 2000). Conclusion In this context, the review of the literature aims to provide information on usage of LSW in treating patients with dementia. The role from the caregiver may enhance the PCC among the patients as depicted from various past researches among the patients and treatment centers. The method of intervention has provided a strong affinity towards positive yield from the current method for the patients, nurses and the families of the patients (McKeownet al. 2006). LSW uses the simple method those are the out of context of pharmaceuticals treatment of dementia patient; however, has been resulted as positive effect on them. The caregivers can demonstrate their whole ability for treat the people with dementia while relationship creation helps the nurses to communicate with patients effectively. It helps the nurses to understand the requirements of the patients with a proper communication among them retaining a care towards personal level. The process of telling the story of a life of a patient might be useful in retention of their memory for the old people (Karlsson, E. et al. 2014). The commonality in method of intervention of dementia is to provide every patient separate treatment as it has showed useful result in treatment. The process is quite submerged with the historical analysis of the patients in describing their personal life of the patients and analyzing the ongoing process repeatedly. The treatment method of LSW is useful mainly for the old people to make them nostalgic as well as to remind them their past (Kunz GraySoltys 2007). This process also allows the old people to reminiscence of previous life context for recapitulating the past life grieves and other incidents mainly. It helps in reconciling the past life due to remembering the history. The different studies have yielded the same concurrent results in deducing the topic as usage of LSW can help the patients in treating dementia. The past researches also have deduced that intervention method of LSW is helpful in making relationship with the patients. It becomes helpful in drawing decision for the style of treatment for the caregivers as the stories of life tell the details action of the patients. Further, the insights of the patients also provide the patients a chance of gaining a cognitive communication among the patient and the caregivers (Moore and Hollett 2003). The phase of the caring-schedule from the caregivers become different for the different patients after knowing their past life as the treatment style of those patients become unique. The better understanding of behavioral approach and gestures of the patients may provide a better line of treatment for the patients thus resulting in decrease of aggression and enhancing of PCC (Spittel2011). The researches present in the case of dementia patient treated with LSW, the section is far behind to develop any good piece of qualitative research while different races and ethnicities. The sample of the research were not properly adjudged according to the sampling method as followed in statistical distribution. The qualitative research would follow the method in details and more inquisitively to understand the observation of the experience of the caregivers and development of the patients. Thus, it can be concluded that more research is necessary in this case to understand the science of LSW entirely. Further, the staff engaged in this care giving process needed to be treated well due to getting the best effort from them. The research also identified that nurses have minor to spend with the patients due to huge pressure of dementia patients in the clinics. While reading the literature, I have got evidence that support me in case of treating different patients regarding to the needs of the individuals and also the psychosocial and physical need are supported which is essential in case of protecting their identity. I got more enthusiasm in case researching the real beneficial of the LSW and also the process that are required in case of implementing in several setting of care and if the positive effect is noticed on the attitude of the nurse. While working regarding to the activity of the nurse, the necessarily of time management is also reminded so that the time that are got free can be spent with several patients and develop regularly the relationship that provide benefits to the efficient and effective management regarding to the environment and patients. There are several lessons that I have learned which includes how the applicable articles can be effectively found on the basis of appropriate data. Regarding to the assignment and the practice that I am going to do in future, this knowledge will become very helpful. Regarding to the research, there are several comparison and contrasting in the research that help me to identify the efficient and the importance of the quantitative and the qualitative research and all the role in the practices regarding to the evidence. All the evidence will be helpful to the nurses that are all done in the practices as all the reading is required in their actions. According to this literature review, the importance of the patients of dementia are regarding to the individuals and in the practices that will be implement in the future is involved in the family practice. All are different regarding to the patients according to the review and they have right regardless to the cognitive injury of caring individually and how the documents that is written can employ in case of improving PCC. Most would say Corporal Swim was mimicking a broken record player when it came to saying this phrase. Every day, he would dress in the noble U.S. Army uniform, providing guidance with his words to the young soldiers who had left home to protect a nation in a world they knew so little about. Like clockwork, at the same time every day, he would retire back to his cookie cutter house locked securely behind the gates protected by the worlds most elite force, and just moments after entering, he would watch the little girl run wildly around their crowded living room wearing his oversized combat boots stating matter-of-factly, I know I want to be exactly like you someday, Daddy, and right on cue, his philosophical phrase would once again be spoken. I never quite understood what my father meant as I traipsed around and looked up at him in admiration when he spoke those words. Little did I know there would come a day that I would understand th at the true meaning of the phrase was being taught to me from the day I first stepped into the Corporals combat boots. From a very young age, my father taught me the importance of higher education. The mystery behind why my father was so insistent became crystal clear to me at an age that most have nothing to worry about except which action figure or Barbie doll they wanted to play with. The name embroidered into the honorable uniform he wore held a shadowed past that was the direct opposite of the values he stood for every day. The cycle that members of his family so often fell prey to was a looming shadow waiting to clench its next victim tightly in its grasp and never let go. He was one of the unlucky ones. The cycle of poverty and alcoholism took him as its prisoner like it did to so many generations before him. Little did I know that the man I looked up to was handcuffed into the life he was living because he never finished school. The military was the silver lining my father sought out in desperation. Unfortunately for him, he would be forever branded and influenced by the cycle of poverty. Though I was free to seek out my own dreams, the Corporal made me promise him one thing: I was not to make the same mistake he did. The most important lesson I would come to learn from him was that submission to poverty is not disgraceful to any man, but to make no effort to escape the reins of poverty is the most dishonorable action any man can take. I was to be the first member of my family to break the chains of the cycle. How was a young girl with no experience in the world to do such a monumental task? Like a sweet dream in the nighttime that a dreamer never wants to end, I spent my days forming my unspoken dream that always lingered in the background: being in the military. As I started to grow older in childhood, this dream only became more prominent. I would graduate high school and continue my fathers legacy as an enlisted soldier. And just like that, I would hear the phrase again. At that moment, I realized what he was trying to tell me. Until then, the military lifestyle was all I had ever known. The world was so full of opportunity, and to think that I did not even know a tenth of that information both discouraged and pushed me to learn all that I could. Information that most would deem useless, I consider to be absolutely fascinating. I have always been collecting and processing information in an attempt to decode this thing we call the world, and as it turns out, no amount of knowledge possessed by anyone could allow them to truly understand this world. What does matter is that since I first stepped into my fathers combat boots that day as a child, I have possessed an unearthly amount of information because I chose to, not because anyone Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18037244479075347295noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7523408613345594790.post-55464872138101829372020-02-18T06:22:00.001-08:002020-02-18T06:22:03.022-08:00Work family interview Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 wordsWork family interview - Essay Example She also said that she has a house nanny, who helps her with the care of the children. When I asked her about her work, she said that she loves her work although sometimes it is pretty demanding. She argued that being a teacher sometimes was quite challenging because children give her a hard time (Kerka & Eric, 1991). She teaches children from the ages 6 to 12 years. Sometimes she would take long hours at work while at other times she would leave work early depending on her responsibilities for the day. She explained that on an average dayââ¬â¢s work would last roughly eight to ten hours, but on a busy day, it would last the whole day and she would often come home late. When she expected to arrive home late she would call her house nanny to pick the children. Her children were studying in a nearby academy; therefore, she often picked them. She said that her husband was always a busy man and travelled a lot and sometimes would take an entire week from work. However, her husband was a responsible man because he always put sometime for his family despite his demanding job. When I interviewed her husband, he said that he was quite a busy man since his career required him to travel a lot. He said that he would wake up as early as 4 am in the morning and sometimes leave the house before anyone was awake. On a normal day, he woke up at 5 am in the morning and take breakfast that his wife had prepared. Sometimes he would wake up earlier than her wife and prepare breakfast for himself (Lee, Duxbury and Higgins, 1994). Most of the time, perhaps the whole week, he would never see his children since he woke up early. However, on weekends he always kept time for his children, his wife and his family. He argued that sometimes he hated his job because it made him miss his family a lot. Sometimes he wished he was the teacher just like his wife so that he would have time for his children. She successfully established one of the fast growing online bookstore business in her region that is now operating internationally in a span of few years. Profile Jinanne Tabra is an Arabic Iraq woman that had an upbringing in Scotland. She was a former pupil of Carlogie Primary School, Carnoustie. When she was five years old, her family went back to Iraq to her fatherââ¬â¢s home town of Baghdad. They wanted to raise her in the Arabic culture and develop her Arabic language (Arabohââ¬â¢s story 2012, 1). However, for the family safety as the gulf war was eminent they relocated back to Scotland. Like most other Arabic children growing abroad she did not find Arabic enjoyable to learn but it was a struggle and difficult for her. While growing up, she did not have any access to fun Arabic books or cartoons although she wished that she had them. She did not even have any access to Arabic games to play with like other children growing in her native country. The best access she had to Arabic teachings was a community run Arabic school. She attended the community school during weekends something, which she did not find appealing. According to Araboh.com (2012, 1) Tabra says that, for her, it was no fun giving up playing time and enjoying your weekend for studying intensive Arabic. Tabra relocated the gulf, back to her native and homeland country while she was in high school. One was that of being Arabic, and striving to maintain her identity and roots as an Arab, while the other was the acquired culture of Scotland where she was born and bred. When she eventually moved back to her country, she was delighted of the prospect of living in a country with one cu lture. Here, she was at home and not a foreigner anymore. According to Deborah Stone, ideas will help people to define alliance, strategic considerations also ideas will help people to get the legitimacy and draw policy boundaries. (Deborah, P 34). According to Deborah Stone, ideas will decide who will be affected, how will they be affected and will they be affected legitimately (Stone, P.34). In the first Chapter, Stone starts her analysis at the city-state (the Greek term polis) level. The public policy is considered as an attempt to achieve a certain community goals (Deborah, P 21). However, due to the fact that everyone has his own understanding of ideas, therefore the political community has become a place for internal debates over who will be affected, how will they be affected and will they be affected legitimately(Deborah, P 34) . The policy-making process has thus become a continuous interaction between the conflict and cooperation. In Stones model, individuals may pursue their goals through collective action. The motivation is not only based on self-interests but also based on public concerns. This is because the public interest is be related to the goal of survival (Deborah, P 33). However, when there is a contradiction between self-interest and public interest, the policy process will be more complicated (Deborah, P 33). When the group is motivated under common ideas, the group will get more strength, and there will be a balance between private interests and public interests in the conflict. Stone directly uses the idea as the core concept of this book. In her construction of polis community vs market individual(Deborah P 33) model, ideas have become the focus. Stone tries to use struggle of idea to explain all stages of policy-making process. Policy-making is followed by a continuous constantly struggle to fight for the classification of standards, types of boundaries, and guide people to conduct the ideal typical definition. The struggle of idea can be seen in several policy levels. According to Stones theory, idea defines what people want from the policy; it is the foundation for people to cognize and understands what the policy is. Idea provides a relationship between advocators and advocacy coalitions; Idea provides causal relationship for these people and groups, and ideas will be reflected to their policy objectives through their actions of obtaining support. And these people with the shared idea will persuade decision-makers to meet their preferences. As mentioned above, Stone sees idea as a constantly changing dynamic and resources of construction. And by given different interpretations of ideas, the concept of the ideas will also change. She points out that the politics of policy is to choose the interpretation (Deborah P 75). Stone argues that the authority to interpret idea is the key factor in the policy-making process. Only legitimated idea can be transformed into policy. And using the legiti macy, peoples knowledge or behavior can be changed. And policy change can also be made through this interaction of ideas. Ideas affects how people cognized politics, and the change of politics will also feedback on ideas. To Stone, idea is not static; idea is an ongoing of constructing and reconstructing process of concepts. Now I will try to exam whether Deborah Stones idea theory can fits with other policy process theory. In the punctuated equilibrium theory, Baumgartner and Jones also argue that idea is a potential power in the policy making process. According to their book Agendas and Instability in American Politics, a powerful supporting idea is associated with the institution (Baumgartner and Jones, P 7); In page 16, they also writethe tight connection between institution and idea provides powerful support for prevailing distribution of political advantage. These statements mean that idea will help people understand what is at stake and how will they be affected (Stone, 2002), policy advocators will use institution arrangement to make their idea be legitimate. Also, in order to gain more power those policy actors will manipulate images and ideas. To Baumgartner and Jones, ideas are important because they provide some potential undergirding institutional arrangements; and the struggle of idea is the struggle over legitimate institution arrangements. In the book Agendas, alternatives and public policies, Kingdon also discusses the importance. In order to make useful policy suggestions, participants in the policy process are competing to develop new ideas; and they are trying to provide their ideas in the form of potential solutions to policy makers. According to Kingdon, policy entrepreneurs lie in wait in and around government with their solutions [already] in hand, waiting for problems to float by to which they can attach their solutions, waiting for a development in the political stream they can use to their advantage (Kingdon, P 165). Shared ideas make policy entrepreneurs into alliance; and these alliances are trying to make their ideas become legitimate. Kingdons primal policy soup (Kingdon, P 139-143) model provides us a picture of how decision makers accept idea through coherent narrative process (ideas are flowing in the streams just as molecules flowing in the soup). According to Kingdon, a policy community creates a sh ort list of ideas. If the ideas can go through the selecting process, softening up process and if they can pass the exam by specialists and policy makers, they may finally become policies. The whole process can be viewed as a continuing struggle of ideas. In this case, ideas are not only competing with other ideas, they are also struggling to survive in this primal soup. I also think Kingdons policy window model is another improvement to Deborah Stones arguments. People are now struggling to make their idea in front of the policy window at the correct time. This model discovers that the during the policy process, critical time is also important for ideas struggling. However, I think there are also some theories which do not fully support Deborah Stones argument. In the garbage can model, because the nature of unclear, policy is not necessarily to be the consequence of the ideas struggling. In Kingdons Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policies, he describes that as garbage can into which various kinds of problems and solutions are dumped by participantsà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ removed from the scene (Kingdon, P 85). In some sense, Deborah Stones Struggling of ideas assumption is more based on a goal-oriented policy making process, in order to make it work, there should be a clear policy goal from all participants; while the classical garbage can model is more like a method-oriented policy making process, it doesnt require a clear goal or solution at the beginning. In the garbage can model, people are not fighting with each other over ideas in the final solution selecting stage, however it is still correct to say that each solution in the garbage can is a result of deliberative idea thinking. I think there is a slight difference between Deborah Stones theory and the garbage can model. Another policy theory which doesnt fully consistent with Deborah Stones theory is the incrementalism theory. According to Lindblom, the incremental policy process is more relied on former existing policies. According to this model, the policy environment generally remains stable. Because the incremental nature of the policy, the new policy will inherent the policy environment from previous policy, if the former policy has resolved the struggling of idea, then there will be less struggling of ideas in the new policies. Since the policy environment is stable, it will be unlikely for us to speculate a violently struggle over ideas. The last policy process theory I want discuss in the context of struggling over idea is the advocacy coalition framework (ACF) theory. The central idea of this theory is that people or groups with the same beliefs (core/policy/secondary) will form a coalition. I think Sabatiers concept of belief is similar to Deborah Stones concept of idea. Especially, I think the concept of policy belief is playing the role of idea in the policy process. I think his core belief is rooted even deeper than idea. The core belief will sometimes become unnoticeable. And using the ACF model, we can find out that the policy process is a competition among different policy beliefs, and I think this observation is close to Deborahs struggle over ideas the essence of policy making.'. But it does not mean that the change in the secondary belief level is also a result of struggling, according to Sabatiers theory, such change is more like the result of an incremental learning process. In conclusion, I think Deborah Stones argument is useful for us to understand some policy process. However, by using different theories we should also notice whether policy processes are struggle over ideas should be analyzed in situations. The Punctuated-Equilibrium model, ACF model and Multiple Stream model indicate that Deborahs argument is valid. In the P-E model, the change of existing idea or appearance of new idea will bring turbulence to the policy process; in the ACF model, the learning process can change beliefs at different level, and these changes will bring feedbacks to the policy process; in the M-S model, policy entrepreneurs will using the opportunity to propose their ideas, and when critical time is come, the coupled stream will become policy. Incremental Model suggests that policy process is not necessarily linked to struggling when the time span of the policy is very short. There could be no struggle when the whole policy process is already fixed. However, I think the origin/first policy in the incremental model is a result of idea struggling. The Garbage Can model suggests that the choosing process within the policy process may appear as a random process, it is not necessarily to be the consequence of the idea struggling. Although in Pakistan very little importance is given to this aspect of organizations inspite of this its importance cannot be denied. In other words, Leadership is the backbone of any knowledge centric organization. This research article shed light on the importance of effective leadership skills and practices which can lead any organization to its golden era. The main focus of the study is the changing nature of leadership with the evolution in the meaning of knowledge based organizations. The study is descriptive in nature and relies on secondary as well as questionnaire based survey. INTRODUCTION Knowledge based organizations are usually considered to be those whose products or services are knowledge -intensive. Knowledge based organizations (also referred as knowledge-enabled or knowledge- intensive organization) are usually described in terms of the knowledge intensity of their product or service. The greater the degree to which knowledge forms the core of the product or service, the more knowledge- based the organization. However, using products or services as a mean for categorizing the knowledge ââ¬â based organization is inadequate. Products or services reflect only the tangible part of the organization. The primary resource that enables an organization to produce is hidden within the ââ¬Å"invisible asset ââ¬â intellectual capitalâ⬠. (Itami, 1987). Knowledge- based organizations (KBOs) lives and breathes knowledge. From dayââ¬âto-day operations to long-term strategy, creating and applying knowledge is always in the forefront. Prior researches have explored which factors areà essential for managing knowledge effectively. Most studies of them have examined the relationship of knowledge management capabilities, processes and performance. Some researchers have focused on the relationship between capabilities and processes (Hansen, 1999; Szulanski, 1996; Zander & Kogut, 1995). Other studies have focused on the relationship between capabilities and organizational performance (Becerra- Fernandez & Sabherwal, 2001; Gold, Malhotra & Segars, 2001; Simonin, 1997). A key to understanding the success and failure of knowledge management within the organization is the identification and assessment of various factors that are necessary for the knowledge management performance measurement with a balanced view (Arora, 2002; Gooijer, 2000). In this study, we examine the relationship among the interpersonal skills and capabilities towards the knowledge-based organizations. To serve this purpose we figure out the core constructs of interpersonal skills and capabilities. Knowledge based organization base their competitiveness on knowledge .Interpersonal skills and capabilities can be critical for the knowledge based organization. Skills are linked with personal knowledge management in knowledge focused organization. Skills can be either basic or cross functional. In basic skills we develop capabilities that assist in the learning of knowledge on the other hand cross functional skills are the ability to carry out the tasks the can help the organization to boost up. Interpersonal skills involve not only how we communicate with others. Aside our confidence and capability to listen and understand, problem solving decision making and personal stress management all these are related to the interpersonal skills and capabilities. Interpersonal skills and capabilities allow dealing effectively with persons of different temperaments, backgrounds and educational qualification in the organization. Knowledge leadership has a capability to built good relation with subordinates and dealing with them. An organization is successful when it posses good team capabilities and interpersonal skills. People create and share knowledge therefore, managing people who are willingà to create and share knowledge is important. Knowledge and competence can be acquired by hiring new people with desirable skills. In particular, T-shape skills embodied in employees are most often associated with core capability. T-shaped skills may enable individual specialists to have synergistic conversations with one another (Madhaven & Grover, 1980). Although a companyââ¬â¢s value is generated by intangible assets like knowledge or brands. Performance measurement is one of the most important management activities. Performance measurement becomes the basis of strategy establishment and achievement in the future because it can definitely bring a companyââ¬â¢s vision and strategic target to all organization members. 3 Objectives of Study âž ¢ The objective of our study is to examine the relationship among the interpersonal skills, capabilities and performance of knowledge-based organizations. âž ¢ To develop the results that the primary resources that enables the organization to perform extraordinary lies within ââ¬Å"intangible assets (intellectual capital)â⬠. 4 Significance of Study Now intangible assets such as knowledge rather than tangible financial assets are a measure of a companyââ¬â¢s value. Knowledge is the one of the important resource that increases the value of organizations and gives them an edge over competitors. Therefore various attempts to measure organizational performance in knowledge management have been conducted accordingly. 5 Problem Statement Interpersonal skills and capabilities of leadership have a strong impact on the performance of knowledge based organizations. 6 Rational of Study With the shift of industrial economy to knowledge economy there is a need to recognize the value of preserving and sharing knowledge among the organizational communities. This includes the development of strategic knowledge focus, knowledge leadership factors which promote knowledge culture and its impacts on knowledge workers and outcomes of the organization. LITERATURE REVIEW Organizational theorists have defined knowledge based organizations (KBO) in various ways. Knowledge based organizations (Perez- Bustamante, 1999) are organizations applying a knowledge based approach to the organization. This approach perceives organizations as a means for the development, integration, preservation, sharing and application of knowledge. (Wu, Ong & Hsu, 2008) add that knowledge based organizations allocate resources to intangible assets in the rapidly changing and highly competitive business environment in order to gain competitive advantage. Gold, Malhotra, & Segars (2001) examined an empirically effective knowledge management model from the perspective of organizational capabilities. Sveiby (1997) developed an intangible asset monitor (IAM) to measure the performance of intangible assets such as human capital, structural capital, and market capital. Based on the analysis of secondary data (Nonaka & Takeuchi, 1995; Choo, 1998; Trunecek, 2003; Bartak, 2006; Calabrese , 2006; Bures, 2007; Medzihorsky & Medzihorska, 2007; Sladecek, 2007) by mean of the method of comparison, the following general characteristics of knowledge based organization were identified. |Knowledge Based Organizations | |Creates, integrates, preserves, shares and applies knowledge; | |Is efficient, innovative, flexible and proactive; | |Is customer focused; | |Uses ITs; | |Has a strong and open corporate culture; | |Implements knowledge processes; | |Exploits knowledge resources; | |Manage risks; | |Implements project management; | |Places emphasis on education and organizational learning; | |Disposes of knowledge employees; | |Is process- oriented | |Supports team work; | |Encourages participation in management | (Martina, Hana & Jiri, 2012) 1 Capability (Competency- Based Approach) ââ¬Å"Competencyâ⬠is a commonly used term for people asserting of their working potential in real activities. The first characterizes competencies as a power and a scope of authority associated with a certain person or body. The second meaning of competencies refers to the capacity, i.e. abilities to perform a certain activity, to have certain general and specific characteristics and skills, to be qualified in the given area. Generally it can be said that it is a set of specific knowledge, abilities, skills, traits, motives, attitudes and values essential for the personal development and successful participation of each person in the organization. This refers to the performance aspect of a competency determined by the level of inputs (knowledge, abilities, skills, traits, motives, attitudes and values) andà measured by the analysis of output (real behavior and results). According to its development, it is possible to divide competencies into three main development phrases. The first phrase consists of individual competencies (White, 1959; McClelland, 1973; Boyatziz, 1982; Schroder, 1989; Woodruffe, 1992; Spencer & Spencer, 1993; Carroll & McCrackin, 1997). The second phase is based on the possibility of managing competencies in an organization by mean of competency models (Mensfield, 1996; mcLagan, 1997; Lucia & Lepsinger, 1999; Rothwell & Lindholm, 1999). The third phase is the identification of core competencies, a sum of organization key organizational competencies that may be exploited to gain competitive advantage (Prahalad & Hamel, 1990; Ulrich & Lake, 1991; Gallon, Stillman, & Coates, 1995; Coyne, Hall, & Clifford, 19 97; Rothwell & Lindholm, 1999; Delamare & Wintertone, 2005). 2 Interpersonal Skills Studies say 90 percent of executive failures are attributable to interpersonal competencies, factors such as leading teams, developing a positive work environment, retaining staff, inspiring trust, and coping with change. If you lack the skills to motivate your frontline employees to accept and optimally use new information technologies, your organization could be missing revenue opportunities. This category grows out of what previous research has referred to as interpersonal skills involve social perceptiveness (Graham, 1983; Mintzberg, 1973; Yukl, 1989) to allow for an awareness of otherââ¬â¢s reactions and understanding of why they react the way they do. The interpersonal skill requirement also includes the skills required for coordination of actions of oneself and others (Gillen & Carroll, 1985; Mumford, Marks, Connelly, Zaccaro, & Reiter-Palmon, 2000) and negotiations skills to reconcile differences among employee perspective and establish mutually satisfying relationships (C opeman, 1971; Mahoney, Jerdee, & Carroll, 1963; Mahoney et al., 1965; Mintzberg, 1973), and persuasion skills to influence others to more effectively accomplish organizational objectives (Katz, 1974; mintzberg, 1973; Yukl, 1989). METHODOLOGY 1 Data Collection and Sample Description Samples were restricted to the companies that adopted knowledge management or held similar process innovation campaigns. The sample was designed to include people from different position, departments and industries. Respondents include executive rank managers of various organizations. In this study, we conducted a questionnaire based survey. The questionnaireââ¬â¢s data is arranged in terms of various variables and five-point Likert scales are used. Respondents are asked to indicate the extent to which they disagree or agree with the given statement by selecting a point on the scales for each question. (Where 1= strongly agree and 5= strongly disagree). 2 Survey Instrument This research uses a survey questionnaire to test the hypothesis. The questionnaire consists of 26 items about leadership skills, practices and the performance of knowledge based organizations. Items about leadership skills consist of cognitive skills (four items), interpersonal skills (three items), and strategic skills (two items). Leadership practices consist of leading by example (two items), coaching (six items), team interaction (three items). Knowledge based organizations performance is assessed using three items including: organizations products (two items), employees performance (two items), and organization reputation in the market (two items). 3 Theoretical Framework The dependent variable is knowledge centric organizations performance, which is the variable of primary interest. We attempt to explain the variance in this dependent variable by the two independent variables of (1) Leadership skills and (2) Leadership practices. By General Colin Powellââ¬â¢s: ââ¬Å"Leadership is the art of routinely accomplishing more than the science of managementà says is possibleâ⬠. Interpersonal skills are ââ¬Å"Considers and responds appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of different people in different situations, is tactful, compassionate and sensitive, and treats with respectâ⬠. D.V I.V 5 Hypothesis Ho= Leadership does not affects knowledge based organizationââ¬â¢s performance. Ho: p = 0 HA= Leadership affects knowledge based organizationââ¬â¢s performance. The correlation between CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS This research proposes and tests a model of leadership skills and practices to better understand the contribution of leadership towards the performance of knowledge centric organizations. The main objective of this research is to investigate the relationship between the leadership skills, practices and KBOââ¬â¢s performance. The findings show how leadership improves the performance of knowledge centric organizations. A knowledge organization focuses on developing interpersonal, structural and network relationships to achieve its goals and objectives effectively and to further generate new knowledge and capabilities for organizational competitiveness and success. Several aspects of the leadership skills were tested, most of which attained empirical support. The major findings are as follow. First, leadership skills grouped into three- parts complex: cognitive, interpersonal and strategic skills. Second, leadership skills were related to organizationallevels. That is, jobs at higher level in the organization have significantly greater overall leadership skill requirement. These findings have important implications for organizational research and practice. They provide empirical evidence of the usefulness of considering different categories of leadership skills. Practically, this indicates that careful attention should be given to management development systems because as managers proceed from lower, to mid, to top level jobs, the rate at which they acquire strategic skills will need to be faster than that for leadership skills in general. Our results imply that effective leadership skills and practices positively impacts key aspects of KBOââ¬â¢s performance. We hope that future research will take advantage of the conceptual and practical findings and further test the model in the other organizations and improve management development, placement and hiring system in knowledge centric organizations. The Most Dangerous Game The Most Dangerous Game is one of the most intriguing short stories ever made. The story was made by Richard Connell on September 16, 1932 and is a book generally about hunting. To go more in depth, itââ¬â¢s a book about hunting humans. It takes place on a Caribbean island in the early 20th century. The main idea of this story is about a man named Sanger Rainsford that fell overboard and ended up swimming to a nearby island inhabited by a man named General Zaroff and his friend Ivan both of which are Cossacks. Both characters encounter each other when Rainsford knocks of the door of Zaroffââ¬â¢s chateau. The two discuss about how Zaroff hunts an interesting animal, humans. Throughout the story, Rainsfordââ¬â¢s actions, thoughts, and feelings show that he is a very strategic, incredibly smart, and brave person. Zaroff is also very similar to Rainsford in one way. General Zaroff is similar to Rainsford because he is also smart but Zaroff is very different from Rainsford because he is cruel and interesting. General Zaroff is similar to Rainsford because they are both smart and Zaroff shows this in the story because heââ¬â¢s found Rainsford even when Rainsford covered his tracks. Zaroff shows this when it says ââ¬Å"itââ¬â¢s General Zaroff. He made his way along with his eyes filled in utmost concentration of the ground before him.â⬠(Page 53) This shows General Zaroff is smart because he is still about to find Rainsford even when the trail he left behind was obscured. Zaroff is also very different from Rainsford because he is cruel which is shown when he admits he en joys hunting humans. Answer: Introduction The abs company is a fertilizer producing company. Based in the Australia. The company was founded back in the 1920s, with the headquarters based in of Perth, in Kwinana Western Australia. With other four storage branches spread out in the region, that is the in Bunbury, Geraldton, Albany and Esperance. With a number of deports also established, in areas convenient to the farmers. Since its establishment, most of the agricultural success on the western side it has been attributed to the company. This is because of the high-quality products they produce, as well as the company the best modern laboratory in soil testing in the country. The success of the enterprise is also attributed to the well-managed organization structure. That comprises of the production division, which is responsible for the production of the fertilizer. The commercial division that deals with the marketing and the sales of the product, the procurement division responsible for all the purchases done by the compan y and the business division that comprises of the legal, the administration, and the human resource department. Problem analysis With all the experience and success and the company enjoys in the region it also faces a number of challenges in its operations in terms of the supply chain management, this are- The main issue is that the company is unable to record or have an explicit approximate of the market demand. This develops because farmers make inaccurate order request which the later change with time making it hard for the production staff to estimate the required amount (Lummus, et al. (2001). Apart from the incorrect orders, the production machine. Is outdated and keeps on failing with approximately two hours daily. And above that, the plant needs eight weeks for maintenance. Which is more than half the period the current or modern factory machines of the same kind required for maintenance. With this established, the company faces a lot of delays and the high cost of maintenance, which affects the companies efficiency. The other challenge is that the firm faces a lot of criticism from customers as the deliveries are always late, compared to the farmer's expectations and the competitors. And if delivered the customers are not able to project the costs as each delivery and season come with a deferent selling price. This makes it hard to the customers to budget plan for the fertilizer. Another issue is that the clients are not comfortable with the prior request of their fertilizers. And instead, they prefer direct purchase which the company does not offer (Akintoye, et al. (2000). The dependency of the production department also brings a problem to all the other departments as the units cannot function effectively if the production area fails. This builds a lot of burden to other departments as they all have to work and bear with the current work rate of the production department as a whole. Falling market share- this is brought about by the stiff competition from other competitors in the market. To which they are able to capitalize on the ABC Companys weakness like high prices and delivery time of the fertilizers in the market. The competitors too are able to produce and provide quality products as the company which increases competition. The dispatch networks are also not convenient compared to the timing and distance to cover so as to meet the market demand effectively. Which mostly contributes to the delays in supply. Besides some of the departments and individuals in the company dont uphold teamwork and instead dont collaborate on the best way forward in making the companys goals achievable. Also, the information system used by the business is absolute and incontinent to the staff member. Where they have neglected its use and instead depend on manual or paperwork as a form of communication. This increases the cost of operation and also consumes companys time in doing irrelevant processes at this day and age (Johnson, (2001). Holding cost at the warehouses for the company is also inconvenient as some of the fertilizer products are stored there for more than nine months. Which in turn increases the raw material inventory as the infrequent delivery and the need to have large safety stock. The Suggested strategies for the ABC company challenges. So as the company can maintain its standards in the market and market share, the challenges must be solved in the following ways. Market demand Other than the company to rely on the order request that customers post, in order for them to produce to fertilizer. They should implement a market analysis on the elasticity of demand and at what time is the demand most high. The company should also work in comparison with the previous statistics, as it is an old company in the market to draw a conclusion on the average production rate per year, which can be achieved through an adequate research(Barnard, (2017). Machinery. Though the cost of purchasing a new production machine plant is very high, it cant compare to the cost of maintenance and time wasted by the current plant the company is using. This is because the six weeks lost with regards to maintenance and 2 hours daily breakdown, is a lot of costs incurred. This is because other activities like human labor are active and even if the breakdown is incurred the employees hour count pay will still increase. And yet the wasted resources cannot be recovered anymore(Georghiou, et al. (2014). that is why it is best to buy the new plant machine. Developing a pricing system will also act as an advantage to the uncertainty the compony courses its customer every time they purchase. Another thing to implement is to improve the efficiency of transportation of the finished goods to the branch stores, and distribution centers, earlier than the high season. This would help solve the late delivery problem the company faces. It is to be achieved through the early planning of raw material purchase, the process production, and transportation of the fertilizers to the selling points (Manuj, et al. (2014). Dependency The production department should always be ahead in terms of output and packaging of the fertilizers. So as to lower the dependency from other departments. This is because the production plant is the backbone of the company and if it can make early productions and leave the other departments to deal with the marketing distribution and management. Also, the procurement department should develop better ways to receive the raw materials other than just depend on the shipping means. So as to create the availability of the raw materials in the stores always. Market share. For the firm motive as to stay ahead of the competitors in the market, one thing to implement is to reduce the market price of their products, as the competitors are developing a better substitute of their product at a lower price. The other is increase the marketing strategy of its products, and provide incentives it the customers (Stadtler, (2015). For example, develop a discount amount if customers buy a certain amount of goods. Or in other terms appreciate the loyal customers for buying their products for a long time, they are credible to have credit purchase. This will be done as a way to stay ahead of the competition by providing what the competitors are not able to provide. Team building The company should introduce team building classes for the employees to understand the benefits of working as a team and also how teamwork breaks a complex problem into simple solutions. The team building lessons will help the company attain its goals as the employees will work in harmony towards each other, which will even make work easier for all departments. Storage cost Through improving the dispatch networks used to supply the products and the improvements detailed in the new plant machine implemented the storage cost for the raw materials and those of finished goods will by decreased immensely, which will in turn increase profits. Information system The company will be expected to purchase a convenient, effective and efficient information system to be implemented in the company communication processes. This will require the custom made features as to cover what the employees need for their work and communication processes (Christopher, (2016). Benefits of the proposed challenges If the recommended team building lessons, are to take place, there will be a significant improvement in all the department with regards to improved communication between the departments; employees will be motivated, as the lessons develop a sense of belonging. And mostly it will develop better problem-solving methods at the workplace, which will, in turn, reduce the crises encountered by the company. The new machine will benefit the company more; this is because of the saved cost of maintenance as the new machine will not require as much maintenance as the old one. It will improve the production possess into current activities. With safety measures also increasing if the new machine is fitted. On the other hand, the company will receive tax incentives for the new plant, without forgetting the time-saving ability that the machine will hold (Wang, et al. (2016). All narrowing down to profiting the company, as well as the old plant machine can be sold to compensate for the cost incurred on the new one. With the proposed market research the company will be in opposition to notice the loopholes in the market which will help develop a new venture. It will also contribute to reducing risks of either producing allot of quantity of less amount of the fertilizer than what is needed or required in the market, which will minimize the cost of storage too. It will also act as a measure of the companys reputation from the market, which will help the company make new strategies of how to improve or maintain the current status. And mostly the market research will benefits as the company will understand better the current trends and the common gup or challenge between the company and the customers. For long term planning of how the company will position itself so as to gain more from the target market. This will lower consumer complain or criticism towards the company, and instead, build a positive company reputation in the region. Implementation of a better information system in the ABC Company will go a long way in improving the sales of the firm, and it is cost effective. This is because, customers will be able to order their purchases anywhere anytime, in the case of any corrections the customer will quickly update the current order request with no cost or time wasted. This will improve the communication between the sales team and the production department because information will be accessible and timely, which will benefit all department in the company and mostly build a smooth running of the companys operations. With the prevention of other departments from depending a lot of the production units implemented. There will be a conducive working environment, where all the departments will concentrate on their work. Instead of majoring more on the fact that the production department is failing them. This situation will also decrease the pressure that pushes the production department and later it might lead to low-quality production or unsafe measures to the workers as the work rate would increase so as to deliver the demanded target. Which in turn leads to fatigue that may result in harm or damages to the company resources. As well as the fact that the employees will work in a friendly atmosphere, unlike the situation where everyone is against the other because of the unmet demands (Prajogo, Olhager, (2016). Another strategy that would benefit the company is the pricing strategy.in which the customers will not only budget their expenses but also have an assurance that they will be buying the products from the enterprise. The approach will also help counter the competition, where competitors use low prices to gain their target market. By the implementation, the company will have a win on both sides, the fact that they will have a level playground with competitors and also by developing an assurance to the customers that they will be able to purchase their products in time. Developing better dispatch networks and transportation means will help promote the company as it will lead to increased profit by the fact that storage cost and losses brought up by delays in transportation of the products. On the other hand, employees who complain about the dispatch networks will be motivated to work harder as there will not be any and reason not to. This will directly lead to more production capacity for the firm. Plan to implement the strategies First and foremost for all the proposed implementation, a willing labor force is required. That is all individuals are ready for a change towards the betterment of the company, so as to attain its goals. The other common issue is financing, as the expected changes will require a substantial amount of capital. Regarding increasing the labor team in the marketing, and market analysis research team. The purchase of new plant machine, the implementation of an efficient information system. And also the finances to cater for the team building sessions for the employees (Govindan, et al. (2014). The other requirements will be regarding specification where, the information system will require more trained personnel to help the current support team in handling the system, which will include better servers and fast computers compared to the current once. With an improvement in the network formwork for the system. The pricing strategy will also call a pone professionals who are well conversant with the practice, as well as the new plant machine as the maintenance procedures are not the same as those of the old machine. More trucks will also be a requirement so as to supplement the intended fast delivery of the fertilizers to the selling points. Departmental targets will also be required so as to guide every department towards the company set goals. This move will be a way to reduce the dependence. For example, as for the production department the production target per day should not go below a sustain number of production in terms of tons. So that other department can also get their objectives, for example, the number of shipments per day, the number of sales expected and so on(Ab Talib, et al. (2014). Conclusion The ABC fertilizer company is one of the best companies in the Australian region with the best reputation and a positive market acceptance from the farmers in the area too. So as to maintain this statue and stay ahead of the venturing companies which pose a threat to the company in terms of competition for the target market in the region. The ABC Company should implement the proposed strategies effectively. Though there are challenges for every proposed approach, the benefits that come after the implementations cannot equal the challenges and risks the company is to undertake or face in the process. This is evident because some of the strategic parasols for the company to implement will increase sales because of the market research that will identify the problems the company is facing in reaching the target market. Also, the new plant machine will definitely increase the sales because of the reduced breakdowns. The cost of operation will, in turn, be brought down because of the reduc ed maintenance cost. The machine will also reduce the time wasted in the maintenance and break down periods the old plant machine used to incur. This recovered time will also lead to more production boosting other departments in the company even to work harder, as it will eliminate the dependency that other departments have over the production departments (Prajogo, et al. (2016). The implementation of all the grievances raised by the employees of the company. For instance, the transportation networks which the employees complained about, would definitely increase their motivation which will later build a better working environment for all persons in the company. This kind of result will inversely affect the complaints raised by customers positively with regards to the delayed deliveries where the products will be delivered in time better pricing strategies, and also the reduced prices. For the reason that workers will all be motivated and committed to working towards the companys goals. And the measures hindering their performance will have been eliminated (Fawcett, et al. (2014). With this kind of implementation, the ABC Company will be back to its feet with at least less competition to threaten its revenue success in the region. Reference Ab Talib, M. S., Abdul Hamid, A. B. Wade. Its a decision that goes much deeper then just a moral dilemma on whether or not a fetus is a person or not. Its a decision that should make any discerning individual question the ethics of the legislation of morality. But Ill leave that for another time, this papers purpose is make clear my beliefs on abortion. To do this I will lay a groundwork of the history of abortion in our country and how it affects us on a local (state) level, and expand on that with the help of secular philosophers and by drawing from my Christian background. We will write a custom essay on The Morality of Abortion specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now To fully understand abortion one must look at its place in society throughout human history. Laws against abortion are only as old as the mid 19th century. Documentation dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans lead us to believe that they were practiced frequently with the blessing of most of the people of the day. The only resistance against abortion in ancient Greece was the Pythagorean School of philosophers and their Hippocratic Oath, and later during the height of the Roman Empire the emergence of Christianity. As civilization moved into the present era common law began to reflect that the views on abortion were that it was okay up until the point of quickening. Quickening is the point of animation for the fetus, its first recognizable movement or the point where it was believed to have been infused with a soul. The penalty for killing a quickened fetus under common law is unsure reports have it ranging from homicide to a simple misdemeanor depending on the time and region. In 1803 England enacted its first abortion legislation which made the abortion of a quickened fetus a capitol offense and pre-quickening abortion a far less grievous offense. American abortion statutes followed suit in 1821 when Connecticut adopted the same legislature. In 1828 New York also adopted a form of the English legislature with post-quickening abortion being treated as second-degree manslaughter and pre-quickening abortion as only a misdemeanor. Around the time of the Civil War more and more states began enacting abortion legislature starting with laws close to those seen in Connecticut and New York but over time they became more and more strict as to when an abortion could take place up until the point where the only allowed it when it was necessary to save the life of the mother. This brings us up the undeniably the most important case in the abortion debate and possibly in the American governing system. The case Roe v. Wade which not only legalized abortion but set for th a precedent for taking the lawmaking power out of the hands of the people and gave it to nine individuals who need not take into consideration the wishes of the people since they have no power to remove them from office. In 1973 a pregnant single woman (Roe) brought a class action challenging the constitutionality of the Texas criminal abortion laws. These laws mandated that abortions may only be attempted for the purpose of saving the life of the mother. She claimed that they were unconstitutional in that they abridged her right of personal privacy, protected by the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth Amendments. Later she claimed to be suing on behalf of herself and all other women who were in similar situations. In this case the Supreme Court determined that the state of Texass anti-abortion laws were an unconstitutional infringement on the privacy of a woman during the first trimester of abortion, when the fetus is determined to not be viable. The court allowed the states to continue to legislate on the legality of abortion after the first trimester of pregnancy. In 1976 in the case Planned Parenthood of Central Missouri v. Danforth the Supreme Court overturned a Missouri law that require d spousal consent for an abortion because it could not give a spouse a veto power that the state was prohibited from exercising. In the state of Iowa all abortions are legal except partial birth abortions. Partial birth abortions are classified as abortions in which the fetus is partially delivered before it is killed. .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 , .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 .postImageUrl , .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 , .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2:hover , .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2:visited , .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2:active { border:0!important; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2:active , .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2 .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2735667ea3b2545d7f9e543a48f531c2:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Positive Accounting Theory Sample EssayNow we get to the fun part, my beliefs on the morality of abortion. First I will attempt to look at it from a secular nonpartisan standpoint. I believe that it is not moral, but without my religious background I would have a hard time putting my finger on exactly why. I will attempt that now. The first argument I will look at is fairly conservative, it is simply put that fetuses are human beings and it is wrong to kill human beings. Now on the surface this argument looks unbeatable, if you believe that fetuses are in fact humans. In what ways are they human? Their DNA is that of a human but dead peoples DNA is human too. Do they have souls (obviously if you are trying to determine the morality of abortion you must believe that humans have souls or wouldnt it just be the same as slapping aside a pesky fly), and if they do have souls do they have them from conception or are they conferred upon the unborn sometime during pregnancy or even at first breath? Or do we rate human life on their potential? Is it immoral to abort a baby simply because they may become the next President of the United States, or cure cancer, or bring about world peace, or take part in some other lofty accomplishment? But then again is it any more wrong to destroy a stone that will become a sculpture then one that will just sit around being a stone. So many more questions are raised then are answered by this argument. What about the consent argument. Seems simple enough, through the act of intercourse a women waves the right of the use of her uterus. Again seems simple enough, its like waving a no-trade clause in your contract. But look at it from the other direction; does getting in a car and driving down the road wave your rights in favor of those of a drunk driver? That throws an unexpected kink into that argument. Does knowing the risks of pregnancy guard make you responsible for what those risks entail? How about an argument against abortion, the one that states that because a fetus is a part of a womens body she has the sole right over what is done to it. To me it seems like the male portion of the relationship should have some say in whether the pregnancy be terminated, he did have equal part in bringing it around. In every argument listed there are pros and cons both ways, all of which seem plausible. But when you think about it almost every conclusion drawn is based on another unrelated allusion: fetuses to dead bodies; the potential of human life to that of a rock; or the risks of pregnancy to those of driving. For instance if you were to tell me that homosexuality was morally okay I could counter by telling y ou that putting two male ends of hose together wont make the hose work and BAM Ive got a counter argument that would make a philosopher proud. The problem is that everything in life is an exception to something else, so when connections are drawn between two things of unequal importance it is easy to distort reality. Since Ive found it impossible to come up with a conclusion of the morality of abortion based on a secular viewpoint Ill draw from my religious background. The difference between approaching this issue from religious and secular viewpoints is that with a Christian background I can view a situation with a surety of right and wrong based on my belief that there is God and hes laid out whats right and wrong, but with a secular viewpoint everything is a little shakier, because without something higher who is to say what really is right? In Psalms 139:15-16 the Bible says My frame was not hidden from you, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them. Looking at these verses I see two things, design and purpose. Every baby is skillfully wrought by God, not something Id want to mess with, and also they each hav e a purpose set out before them by an infinite being which is also something Id rather not mess up. There is also the matter of the 7th commandment, the one about not killing. Looking from a biblical standpoint it does seem like all the fetus as a person bases are covered. .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 , .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 .postImageUrl , .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 , .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40:hover , .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40:visited , .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40:active { border:0!important; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40:active , .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40 .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u5803e4e5b1b4b7d6eed5d1d05d3a7c40:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: All We Need is Love EssayIf I were coming from a secular background I would probably agree with abortion, and a womens right to choice. But only because I could not be sure I was right, and I wouldnt want to force wrong beliefs on others. Bush in 2004. It took effect in 2005. The ethanol subsidy, which is commonly referred to as the blenders credit, offers ethanol blenders registered with the Internal Revenue Service a tax credit of 45 cents for every gallon of pure ethanol they blend with gasoline. That particular ethanol subsidy cost taxpayers $5.7 billion in foregone revenues in 2011, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office, the nonpartisan congressional watchdog agency. Debate Over the Ethanol Subsidy Supporters of the federal ethanol subsidy argue that it encourages production and use of the biofuel and thereby reduces the amount of foreign oil needed to produce gasoline, a step toward energy independence. But critics argue that ethanol burns far less efficiently than gasoline, driving up fuel consumption and that it increases demand for corn for fuel and artificially boosts the cost of farm commodities and retail prices of food. They also say such an incentive is unnecessary because legislation enacted in 2007 requires oil companies to produce 36 billion gallons of biofuels such as ethanol by 2022. While born of good intentions, federal subsidies for ethanol have failed to achieve their intended goals of energy independence, U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, a Republican from Oklahoma and leading critic of the ethanol subsidy, said in 2011. The effort to Kill the Ethanol Subsidy Coburn led an effort to repeal the ethanol subsidy in June of 2011, saying it was a waste of taxpayer money - he said the Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit cost $30.5 billion from 2005 through 2011 - because consumption remained only a small part of the countrys fuel use. His effort to repeal the ethanol subsidy failed in the Senate by a vote of 59 to 40. While Im disappointed my amendment did not pass, taxpayers should remember that when I offered an amendment to defund the Bridge to Nowhere in Alaska in 2005 we lost that vote 82 to 15, Coburn said in a statement. Over time, however, the will of the people prevailed and Congress was forced to scale back this wasteful and corrupting practice. Today, the earmark favor factory is mostly closed. Only the tax division remains open. Im confident this debate, and many more ahead, will expose the tax code for what it is - an abomination that favors the well-connected over working families and small businesses. History of the Ethanol Subsidy The Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit ethanol subsidy became law on Oct. 22, 2004, when President George W. Bush signed the American Jobs Creation Act into law. Included in that piece of legislation was the Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit. The initial bill gave ethanol blenders a tax credit of 51 cents for every gallon of ethanol they mixed with gasoline. Congress reduced the tax incentive by 6 cents per gallon as part of the 2008 Farm Bill. According to the Renewable Fuels Association, gasoline refiners and marketers are required to pay the full rate of tax, which is 18.4 cents per gallon on the total gasoline-ethanol mixture but can claim the 45 cents per gallon tax credit or refund for each gallon of ethanol used in the mixture. The ethanol subsidy benefits multibillion-dollar integrated oil companies such as BP, Exxon, and Chevron. The First Ethanol Subsidy The Energy Policy Act of 1978 was the first federal legislative ethanol subsidy. It allowed for a 40-cent tax exemption per gallon of ethanol, according to Purdue University. The Surface Transportation Assistance Act of 1982 increased the tax exemption to 50 cents per gallon of ethanol. The 1990 Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act extended the ethanol subsidy to 2000 but decreased the amount to 54 cents a gallon. The 1998 Transportation Efficiency Act of the 21st Century extended the ethanol subsidy through 2007 but reduced it to 51 cents per gallon by 2005.Bushs signature on the Jobs Creation Act changed the way the modern ethanol subsidy worked. Instead, it offered a straight tax credit to producers, the legislation allowed for the blenders credit. President Trump Protects the Ethanol Subsidy During his 2016 campaign, President Donald Trump came out as one of the ethanol subsidyââ¬â¢s strongest supporters. Speaking in Iowa, where corn is king, on January 21, 2016, he said, ââ¬Å"The EPA should ensure that biofuel . . . blend levels match the statutory level set by Congress,â⬠adding that he was ââ¬Å"was ââ¬Å"there with you [farmers] 100 percentâ⬠on continuing federal subsidy for ethanol. ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re going to get a really fair shake from me.â⬠After Trump took office in January 2017, all seemed well with the ethanol subsidy until early October, when his own EPA administrator Scott Pruitt announced that the agency was considering lowering the EPA-mandated subsidy payment level for ethanol ââ¬Å"slightlyâ⬠in 2018. The suggestion sent shockwaves through the Corn Belt and its Republican congressional protectors. Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley accused Trump of a ââ¬Å"bait and switch,â⬠in reference to his empathic campaign promise. Grassley and Iowaââ¬â¢s other Republican senator, Joni Ernst, threatened to block all of Trumpââ¬â¢s future EPA appointments. The governors of most Corn Belt states joined in sending Trump warning him than any cutback in the Renewable Fuel Standard programââ¬â¢s subsidies would be ââ¬Å"highly disruptive, unprecedented and potentially catastrophic.â⬠Faced with the potential loss of influence over some of his strongest congressional backers, Trump quickly told Pruitt to back off any future talk of cutting the ethanol subsidy. On July 5, 2018, Pruitt resigned amid multiple accusations of ethics violations involving his excessive and unauthorized personal use of government funds. He was replace within hours by EPA deputy director Andrew Wheeler, a former lobbyist for the coal industry. Charles Elster in his Big Book of Beastly Pronunciations submits reluctantly and ungraciously to the fact that a great many educated English speakers pronounce the ââ¬Å"lâ⬠in almond: With so many accepted pronunciations of the word, common sense dictates that the prudent orthoepist, like the circumspect politician, refrain from issuing a dictum and instead defer to regional and personal preferenceââ¬âin common parlance, go with the flow. orthoepist: An expert in orthoepy; a person who studies the pronunciation of words Elster nevertheless maintains that his personal preference, is, well, preferable, pointing out that all of his sources list the AH-mund pronunciation first. He does not budge on alms, balm, calm, palm, psalm, qualm, and salmon, insisting that to pronounce the ââ¬Å"lâ⬠in any of these words is ââ¬Å"beastly.â⬠Both the OED and M-W list the silent ââ¬Å"lâ⬠as the first pronunciation and the ââ¬Å"lâ⬠pronunciation as a variant for the following words: alms, palm, psalm, and qualm. OED gives only the silent ââ¬Å"lâ⬠pronunciation for salmon, balm, and calm. M-W lists both pronunciations for balm and calm, but only the silent ââ¬Å"lâ⬠pronunciation for salmon. Another ââ¬Å"lâ⬠word, solder, ââ¬Å"a fusible metallic alloy used for uniting metal surfaces or parts,â⬠is pronounced SOD-er in American English, but SOLE-der in British English. Most of these words had their problematic lââ¬â¢s inserted in the 15th and 16th centuries when scholars thought it important to make words resemble their Latin originals. Salmon, for example, entered English without the l: samoun. Its Latin original was salmon. The ââ¬Å"lâ⬠was ââ¬Å"restored,â⬠but the pronunciation did not change. Some other words with ââ¬Å"restored lââ¬â¢sâ⬠that no one argues about are: fault, vault, cauldron, and soldier. Obviously, answering the question of whether public opinion has a connection to the voting patterns of legislators is important in political science. Myriad studies have looked into the two areas in examining the connection between the two important variables and the article records several authors behind the inquiries. As the article reports, most of them clinch that legislators are indeed reactive to the opinions of the public as they depict a positive correlation between the variables (Butler and Nickerson, 56ââ¬â57) . After a conclusive examination of related literature, the researchers finally choose a methodology fit to investigate the query at hand. The study involves 10,690 New Mexicans who are asked to give their views regarding the Governorââ¬â¢s outlay plans for a unique summer session in 2008ââ¬â¢s summer. The survey results, which reflect District-specific opinions, are shared with legislators, who are selected randomly. Findings from the research show that legislators tended to vote in line with the opinions of the members of their constituency (Butler and Nickerson, 72) . This then proves that legislators work towards being responsive to the opinions of the public than to their natural states. The results have myriad implications for comprehension as well as improving the manner in which represent the preferences of their constituents. Reality confirms that it is just impossible for todays weight watchers to choose how they want to look and always dream of that miracle cure that will instantly change their physique and make them more attractive to the opposite sex, but this quote, which adds to the unique aspect of the text because it has been said by a person (woman) states that someone is saying that they will choose what kind of body they want this year, which instantly makes the reader that little more interested, being able to state such a thing lures the readers further into the advert, bringing them onto the main bulk of the text, now they have been briefed on what the product could do for you, with the help of the images titles and quotes the reader develops (her) interest enough to want to read the small print which a success on the count of the editor and retailer. Coming to the last few points of the advert analysis we see that there are some very considerable features that are hidden to the ordinary Joe Bloggs but seem to work like a charm unbeknown to them.à à Moving on to the main bulk of text situated on the extreme right of the A4 spread. One point I have noticed is that the advert seems to form a secret map, for the readers eyes, there are certain features that follow on from each other that guide the eyes all round the advert gradually covering everything there is to see, below I have described how my map theory seems to function; You start with the large (st) picture of the woman,à à Very close to that, close enough to not let the eyes wonder off is the big title stay special the eyes then run along the title crossing the textual bridge across the pageà Which then leads the eye to the top of that page, using the natural instinct of the eye to go to the top of the following page when reading, which then Brings us to the next base where there is another title/quote then this leads you downà à To the large capital N starting off the block of text the eyes read through this quite oblivious to the mapping system going onà Leading all the way down to the final caption and a finishing image to fixate in the readers mindAmazing!à And there you have it, moving back to the main bulk of text; this paragraph contains the main detail that the customer/reader needs to know, but would not instinctively stop to read while reading the whole magazine, even though if the reader may want the product, if they read the details their eyes do not recognise this while glancing at the page. Moving on to analysing the text itself; the entire paragraph is addressed to the reader personally like a one to one conversation, this adds familiarity between the reader and the woman in the advert, a very informal vocabulary is used with words such as beefcake and dream boy, and the subject of the text is associating the cereal with setting up a perfect relationship with a womans ideal man, by gaining the apparent impossible, and I quote, a figure thats irresistible. Further more as I read deeper into the text, a kind of friendly relationship is built up between the reader and the woman in the article and then some sentences, that are said soon make sense of the once mysterious images, like the picture of the man on the fridge; we soon understand that the picture is there to stop the woman pigging out because the image reminds her of her prize at the end. It states, A splash of ice cold milk on a bowl of Special K is a pleasure not a chore this has a great effect on the reader because everyone knows, that dieting and eating healthy just seems like hard work. However for the woman to say its a pleasure, coaxes the reader further and now that there is this little relationship going on with the reader and writer a sense of trust develops, the paragraph finishes off nicely with all I need now is someone just as tasty to share it with this Is a perfect finish if you ask me because it gets the reader thinking, and soon has them begging for the source that will grant them this perfect scenario, and they then finally read on to the final part which states all the nutritional facts about the cereal, as discussed before the last picture is of the box, and this is the last thing the reader sees, before turning the page and will be the most recent thing they remember when they go shopping for another Bach of cereal. Some very good features were described; we have witnessed the very skilful and cunning minds of editors for adverts, how deep planning and thinking is needed to capture the readers interest and also just as importanttrust.à My Advert (MFI)à My advert is advertising a well-known furniture store called MFI; the advert is set upon one single A4 sheet, and only contains one main image, one title and a logo. As with the previous analysis I will start with the images and the rest of the features will follow after one another. As I said there is only one main image this is of a beautiful bedroom that has a very warm feel to it because of the mixture of dark reds and purples, used in the room. In the centre of the bedroom is a bed and on the bed lying down is ruby wax a very well known TV presenter, in a night gown with her feet up in the air smiling looking towards the reader. The room is truly fit for a king/queen, as all the features of the room are immaculate and matching almost impeccably. Now to pinpoint the effect of this;à First of all the whole page is taken up by the colours of the image and this will easily attract the readers attention, as it did mine when I was searching for an advert to study. So the advert relies a lot on its image functions to attract attention and not so much on titles and quotes. The room is immaculate telling the reader that their bedroom may well look like this if they shop at MFIà There is a teddy on the bed and I feel this adds a bit of familiarity to the advert and associates it with everyday peopleà A known celebrity is used to sell the product, and as people will flick through the pages of a magazine a face that they recognise will almost certainly make them stop and want them to read onà Also Ruby Wax is a very high rate celebrity and people know that she has a few quid, and when they see Ruby Wax with some products from MFI they suddenly think well if its good enough for its good enough for me, for celebrities may shop where ever they want, and if she has chosen MFI this forms a trust bond with the reader of good quality. Moving on to the text, there is only one main title piece of text which reads, all the big names under one roofà This is corresponding to two things at one time so is a play on words. One meaning is referring to Ruby Wax, as she without a doubt is a big name and she is under one roof in the bedroom so that is one of the meanings of this text piece. Then the second meaning is referring to the actual brands of the furniture, all the big names under one roof all the best furniture brands in one shop. This effect causes the reader to think for a second and choose which out the two ways they interpret this title either way they will be impressed by the statement and will instantly be intrigued to go and check out the big names under the roof of MFI. Then finally we have the logo of the brand that kitted out the bedroom that Ruby Wax is displaying, this the last thing the reader sees and this sticks in the readers mind for when they may visit MFI so SCHREIBER at MFI assists the reader in what they look for first when they visit the store, this is a beneficial technique for both MFI and SCHREIBER and this about wraps up the features of this advert, not quite as complex as Kelloggs but that advert had more of psychological effect on woman of today and their scenario of wanting a man and needing a nice figure to find a decent one, where as furniture is more of a general subject and requires less detailed features. The many theories of evolution such as Darwin's theory of evolution prove to us that we choose to believe that we are not animals when we really are. Evolution is the sequencial process of change over periods of time, which shapes and establishes the formation of modern man. In referring to evolution, the word means various changes. Evolution refers to the fabrication and development of life on earth. "Organic evolution" is the concept that all living beings evolved from simple organisms and have changed throughout the periods of time to create many and various types of species. Organic evolution is better known as the "theory of evolution." There are three main theories of evolution, which are, the early theories proposed by Comte de Buffon, Baron Cuvier, and Lamarck, the synthetic theory, and the Darwin theory. In the 1700s, French naturalists, Comte de Buffon and Baron Cuvier concluded with the studies of fossils and comparative anatomy that life on earth had endured many changes through a long period of time. In the early 1800s, another French naturalist named Lamarck, proposed the first complete theory of evolution. He observed through his observations, depending on the extent to which the use of the structure, that an animal's body structure is able to change during its life span. He also noted that organs and muscles, which were used often, tended to become larger and stronger. On the contrary, the organs and muscles, which were used seldom, tended to become smaller and diminish. With these observations, Lamarck concluded that these characteristics were hereditary. Proposed during two decades, the 1930s and 1940s, the synthetic theory involved a group of scientists. The group of scientists included two American biologists, Russian Theodosius and German Ernst Mayr, and the British geneticist and statistician Ronald A. Fisher. Together, they proposed the synthetic theory which combined Darwin's theory of natural selection with the ideals of genetics. In 1808, French naturalist Chevalier de Lamarck contemplated a theory of evolution, although, his theory of evolution did not gain any recognition until 1858. In 1858, British naturalist Charles R. Darwin furnished his theory of evolution, also known as Darwin's theory. Along with Darwin's theory of evolution there early theories and t... .... The Neanderthal Man was a survivor. It had a cranial capacity, which was similar in size to modern humans. The Neanderthal Man had basic advances in life style. The Neanderthal Man made basic clothes and constructed tools of advanced design. The Cro-Magnon Man is regarded has the first fine artist on earth. Proof of this fine artistry is that of rich records of accomplishments in cave paintings, which Cro-Magnon made. He made these records From stone engravings and carved figures. Cro-Magnon amazingly spread to all habitable parts of the world. Modern Man, us, has learned from the teaching and evolvement of the Cro-Magnon. We have learned to grow our own food and domesticate our animals. In addition we possessed the control over the environment and created cites and established civilizations. We act like animals, we eat like animals, and we are animals. The many theories of evolution such as Darwin's theory of evolution prove to us that we choose to believe that we are not animals when we really are. With the amazing changes and evolvement our species has undergone and as the twenty first century approaches us, who knows what forms of evolutionary change will come of us. It is used in competitions but there are no real regulations on how it has to be swum. Most swimmers choose to swim front crawl during freestyle competition because it is the fastest technique. For individual freestyle competitions, however, a swimmer can use any stroke they want, but during medley competitions they cannot use the breaststroke, butterfly stroke or backstroke. The freestyle stroke involves: coordination, movement and breathing. First off, coordination is the key to successfully learning how to swim. Visualize a line running down the center of the body from the chin to the chest. This line is the axis upon which the whole body should move, and it should extend horizontally in the direction one is swimming. Keep the legs straight with the toes pointed out, and kick up and down. The secret is to continue kicking the entire time. Remain horizontal in the water. A strong kick will keep the legs from sinking behind oneââ¬â¢s body. The kick should not make a big splash, but rather, should just churn the surface of the water. Also remember to move the arms in a windmill motion opposite of each other. While one arm is extended completely out, the other should be all the way back, almost against the side of the body. Keep the hands flat, thumb separated from the index finger and pull the extended arm through the water beneath the body. Bend the arm at the elbow and draw the fingertips along the imaginary line down the center of the body. Stretch each stroke out as much as possible without ever pausing from the windmill motion. Most importantly, remember to breathe on one side by turning the head to that side as the arm comes out of the water. After that, lift the other arm out of the water and move it all the way forward as the first arm is pulling beneath the body. Then while bending at the elbow, drag the fingertips along the surface of the water. Penetrate the water with the fingertips and completely extend the arm. As the hands are being pulled through the water, keep them cupped firmly, but not rigidly. Fingers should be held just slightly apart. These few steps are the basics of learning how to freestyle swim. It is the most basic swim style and is very commonly used. Coordination, movement and breathing are the main factors in learning how to swim. These steps will definitely increase your swimming successfulness.
